Watching how successful products are built and managed is like listening to a master class on decision making, trade-offs, and customer obsession.
Talvinder Singh, from a Pragmatic Leaders foundational session

Videos are a powerful way to internalize product management concepts. Watching expert talks, tutorials, and case studies helps you see how abstract principles play out in practice. The actual job of a PM is making decisions under uncertainty. Videos expose you to those moments—how teams prioritize, measure impact, and respond to real user data.

This curated selection of videos will help you start thinking like a product manager. They cover analytics fundamentals, user behavior, technical performance, and strategic choices. The goal is not passive consumption but active observation—notice what questions the speakers ask, what metrics they focus on, and how they frame trade-offs.

Why video learning matters for PMs

Product management is an applied discipline. You can read frameworks and theories endlessly, but unless you see how they unfold in real teams and products, they remain abstract.

Videos put you in the room. You witness decision points, hear the language engineers and PMs use, and grasp the rhythm of product development cycles. This helps build pattern recognition—the core skill that separates junior PMs from senior ones.

Indian startups like Razorpay and Swiggy thrive because their PMs deeply understand user pain points and data signals. You will develop that skill by observing how experts interpret analytics and user feedback in these videos.

The actual job is to connect data to decisions

A recurring theme across these videos is the centrality of analytics. Whether it's Google Analytics tutorials or performance optimization talks, the message is clear:

If you cannot answer how users behave, what drives retention, or where the funnel leaks, you are not ready to build or launch a product.

One video titled Getting Started with Google Analytics walks through the setup and interpretation of user data. Another on Optimizing Networking Performance shows how technical metrics directly impact user experience and retention.

You will hear engineers and PMs discuss trade-offs like latency versus features, or accuracy versus speed. These are the real dilemmas you will face.

This 30-minute tutorial from Google's official channel is a must-watch. It covers:

  • Setting up an account and tracking code
  • Understanding key metrics like sessions, users, bounce rate
  • Segmenting users by geography, device, and behavior
  • Setting goals and conversion tracking

For Indian PMs, mastering analytics is non-negotiable. Swiggy PMs, for example, obsess over funnel drop-offs and delivery time metrics daily. Razorpay PMs monitor transaction success rates and payment method preferences.

// Getting Started with Google Analytics

This 50-minute talk by Ilya Grigorik dives into HTTP/2 and web performance optimization. You may wonder why this matters for PMs.

Here is the uncomfortable reality: technical performance directly shapes user engagement and retention. A slow app or website kills conversion. PMs must understand the basics of performance to prioritize engineering work effectively.

This talk explains:

  • How browser networking works under the hood
  • What latency and throughput mean for user experience
  • Why batching and caching matter
  • The impact of HTTP/2 multiplexing on load times

Indian product teams at companies like Flipkart and PhonePe face these issues at scale. Knowing these concepts lets you ask the right questions and make trade-offs between features and performance.

This 10-minute video by Marques Brownlee explains the product decisions behind Google Glass. It reveals how hardware, software, and user experience trade-offs converge to shape a product.

For PMs, this is a useful case study in:

  • Defining core value versus actual product features
  • Balancing innovation with usability
  • Understanding user context and adoption barriers

Indian startups in hardware-adjacent spaces—like boAt Audio or Noise—face similar challenges. Learning from Google Glass’s journey sharpens your product intuition.

How to watch these videos effectively

Simply watching videos is not enough. What I tell PMs is to watch with a notebook and pause often. Ask yourself:

  • What is the key problem the product or team is trying to solve?
  • What metrics do they use to define success?
  • What trade-offs are visible in their decisions?
  • How does user context shape their priorities?
  • What assumptions are they testing or validating?

This active observation builds your mental models. It trains you to see the invisible levers under product decisions.

The trap of passive consumption

I have watched thousands of aspiring PMs binge content without reflection. The trap is treating videos as entertainment instead of learning.

The actual job is to extract patterns and apply them. For example, when a speaker talks about funnel conversion rates, try to relate it to a product you know—Zerodha’s onboarding funnel or Meesho’s seller activation.

If you cannot answer “what would I do next if I were the PM here?” you have not gained much.

Supplementary videos for analytics and product fundamentals

Here are additional videos to deepen your understanding:

  • Google Analytics Tutorial Step-By-Step by Scott Bradley (28 mins): A practical walkthrough of setting up events and goals.
  • Universal Analytics - Part 1 & 2 by Kissmetrics (3-12 mins): Covers advanced tracking concepts.
  • Android Tutorial 11: Integrating Google Analytics in an Android App (21 mins): For PMs working on mobile products.
  • Beginners Guide to Google Analytics by Lady Luck Media (18 mins): A beginner-friendly overview.

Indian PMs working on mobile-first products—like PhonePe or Zepto—must pay special attention to mobile analytics integration.

How these videos fit into your learning journey

This is the warm-up stage. The goal is to get your neurons firing on product thinking and data fluency. After you have watched and reflected on these videos, you will be ready for:

  • Discovery techniques to understand user needs
  • Product vision and strategy formulation
  • Metrics and KPIs that matter for your product

Each of these builds on the foundation these videos lay.

Field Exercise: Video reflection and note-taking (20 minutes)

  1. Watch the Getting Started with Google Analytics video.
  2. Pause every 5 minutes to jot down:
    • One key takeaway
    • One question you would ask if you were the PM
    • One metric or concept you want to explore deeper
  3. Repeat with the Optimizing Networking Performance talk.
  4. Reflect: How do these concepts apply to a product you use daily? Swiggy? Flipkart? Razorpay?
  5. Write a short paragraph on how you would explain the importance of analytics to a non-technical stakeholder.

Test yourself: Analytics prioritization scenario

// learn the judgment

You are a new PM at a Series A Indian fintech startup with 100,000 monthly active users. The CEO wants to launch a new rewards feature next quarter. The engineering lead says the current app has a 3-second page load time on average, causing 15% drop-off before login.

The call: What do you prioritize: improving app performance or launching the rewards feature? How do you justify your decision to the CEO and engineering?

Your reasoning:
