In this module, we will be diving deeper into the first step of first principle thinking, which is breaking down the problem. We have already covered the importance of first principle thinking and have seen examples of how it can be applied to real-world problems. In this module, we will take a closer look at the process of breaking down the problem and understand how it is critical to solving problems effectively. You will learn how to identify the specific problems that need to be addressed and understand the underlying issues that are causing them. You will also learn how to gather data and conduct customer research to gain a better understanding of the problem. By the end of this module, you will have a thorough understanding of how to break down a problem and be able to apply this knowledge to your own product or market problems. We will be using the case study of Dunzo to further understand the process of breaking down the problem. We will see how the company identified their problem of low customer retention and acquisition, and how they broke it down to understand the underlying issues. We will also be revisiting other examples from previous modules to further understand the importance of breaking down the problem. By the end of this module, you will be able to break down a problem effectively, identify the underlying issues and be able to gather data and conduct customer research to better understand the problem. With this knowledge, you will be able to move on to the next step of first principle thinking, identifying underlying principles.
